A GLP-1 medicine is being tested against methamphetamine addiction
A small pilot study asks whether a weight medicine can be studied in addiction. No results yet.

Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern have completed a pilot study of tirzepatide in adults who have both obesity and moderate to severe methamphetamine use disorder. The study planned for up to 45 participants.
Everyone received the medicine once a week for 32 weeks, prescribed for its approved weight use, with weekly clinic visits and a four-week follow-up. The phase 2 study had no comparison group; it was built to test whether such a trial is feasible and to look for early signs of an effect.
No results have been posted. A single-group pilot cannot show that tirzepatide helps with addiction, and the next proof step is a larger trial with a control group.
