The rise of GLP-1 microdosing
The idea: step down to a small dose and stay there, so weight and muscle stop swinging with every stop and start.
Stopping a GLP-1 medicine usually brings the weight back, and that is the case being made for microdosing: stepping down to a small maintenance dose that holds the loss with less drug.
The worry is body composition. About a third of the weight lost on the earlier medicines is lean mass, mostly muscle, while what returns after stopping is mostly fat. Each cycle of stopping and restarting leaves a person with less muscle and more fat than before.
Microdosing is a clinician's proposal, not a tested protocol, and not everyone finds a dose that works. The next proof would be a trial comparing a low maintenance dose with stopping outright.
