Do GLP-1 peptides cause infertility?

Infertility isn't an established effect. The label asks people to stop the peptide at least two months before a planned pregnancy because of how long it stays in the body.

WHAT SHAPES FERTILITY

Fertility is shaped by weight, metabolic health, menstrual regularity, ovarian function, age, sleep, other medications, and underlying conditions. For people with weight-related fertility friction, weight loss can support a return of regular cycles.

For people in a steep calorie deficit, fertility signals can shift the other way. That's a property of the deficit, not specific to these peptides.

WHAT THE LABEL SAYS

The Wegovy label is direct on pregnancy planning: stop the medication at least two months before a planned pregnancy because the peptide has a long half-life and stays in the body for weeks after the last dose.

The signal in the label is a planning window, not a fertility outcome.

What this means

The "weight-loss peptides cause infertility" framing overshoots the evidence.

Pregnancy planning is a known step in the peptide arc, not a discovered problem.
