Households with a GLP-1 user cut grocery spending 5.3% within six months
Not a switch to better food. Cornell found people simply buying less of it, and the snack aisle absorbed the deepest cut.

Households with at least one GLP-1 user cut grocery spending 5.3% within six months, and 8.2% among higher-income households, according to a Cornell University study. Chips, cookies and bakery items took the largest reductions, yoghurt and fresh fruit rose only modestly, and people who stopped returned to their old spending.
Scale is what turns a shopping list into an economy. About 2% of US adults, roughly 5 million people, were taking these medicines as of May 2025, Wall Street puts the category above $100 billion by 2030, and Goldman Sachs estimated a 0.4% lift to US gross domestic product at a baseline of 30 million users. Food companies are already shipping high-protein lines and smaller portion sizes, and the fast-food industry is running its own numbers on lower future demand.

A month lists between $1,079.77 and $1,349.02 in the US, national health systems ration coverage to the most severe cases, and the fastest growth is among people paying for themselves, which one specialist called the making of a two tier society. That does not mean this is only a story about wealthy shoppers, since obesity already tracks inequality in income, and the harder question is whether prices fall fast enough for the two curves to meet.
